Art Statement

Zidian Pan/Zadie Pan (Artist Name: Zidian Zadie) is an artist currently studying in the MFA Computational Arts programme at Goldsmiths, where her work explores the intersection under the context of human nature and computation. Through her artistic practice she demonstrates the breadth of her creative expression using a variety of materials and media, including interactive installations, audiovisual performances, projections with sculptures, digital illustrations, and even the integration of web design.

Her current themes are mostly using computational art as a means of expressing her thoughts on a particular social phenomenon. 'Hybrid Temporal Detectivism' will be the main perspective for future art practice and creative writing. The key is to investigate the 'facts' at present, above which the truth could be exploratory 'fictioning' merged with certain philosophies. The final artfact is the presentation of this aesthetic, temporally chaotic, critical, and intertwined with truth and fiction.

At the same time, she believes that creation is also a process of healing and that the ugliness, dirtiness, and mystery are hidden in the fables, trying to discover the alienating and unpleasant part of the language that exists in computational art. Influenced by her background of Law, the artist subconsciously moves away from the emotions and perspectives of the people involved, based on the accumulation of basic undergraduate knowledge and practical experience, and instead explores the whole set of social logic behind these events, expressing the "untouchable reality", hoping that the work will bring out the viewer's thoughts on the logic behind social issues.

In the future, she would like to continue to focus on how to merge the emotions of rationality, restraint, spirituality, and pinnacle and express in the aesthetics of computational and traditional arts. At the same time, she also expects more different ways of presentation to emerge in combination with other fields, hoping to use the hand of artistic practice to bring difficult and obscure theories closer to life, rather than keep them in a box, perhaps bringing an answer to many confused people. Through her creative endeavors, Zidian invites viewers on a transformative journey of introspection and discovery. Her work encourages meaningful dialogue and promotes a deeper understanding of the intricate relationship between humans and technology.
