"Absence is an audio-visual interactive work that captures the audience’s body data to form the contours of the body, the trajectory of the movement, and the rhythmic changes in digital video. The artist aims to focus on the interaction between the physical and digital realms, and how to perceive the boundaries of "existence" in the digital world through this interaction. In the context of viewing the exhibition, this ephemeral "presence" and "absence" is more emphasized.
The digital existence of human is based on binary and data, and the artist adopts a more intuitive way to replace the data that is difficult to be perceived and creates a more tangible "presence" by reconstructing the physical body in the digital world at that present time. Sight and sound are important reliances for entering the digital world, so the visual transformations expressed as sub-dimensional shuttling and the layback of time and space, and the sound rhythm changes based on body movements in the work all help to construct a more complex and comprehensive energy field.
Nevertheless, the space left inside the contour line remains a blank space, and all traces will eventually be erased. In trying to emphasize the process and result of "presence", the artist is also intentionally constructing a void. This "absence" conflicts with the richness of the audio-visual experience, but it does not equal to absence of existence. In the context of the digital world, it is worthwhile to explore how to reconceptualize the "digital self", the influence of the body contour on the cognition of "presence", and the cognition and reasons for the internal and external attributes of the contour.
